Sunrise on the Reaping is an upcoming dystopian novel written by the American author Suzanne Collins. It is the second prequel novel to the original The Hunger Games trilogy, following The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, released in 2020. It is set 24 years before the events of the first novel. It is set to be released on March 18, 2025, by Scholastic.[1] A film adaptation was announced to be in production on June 6, 2024, and is set to be released by Lionsgate on November 20, 2026. [2]
Background[edit]
This prequel begins on the morning of the 50th anniversary of the reaping of The Hunger Games and takes place during the Second Quarter Quell. For this upcoming novel Collins was inspired by Scottish philosopher David Hume, specifically his ideas of implicit submission and 'the easiness with which the many are governed by the few' which is comparable to her inspirations for The Hunger Games trilogy, namely Greek and Roman mythology.[3]
