Alina Maria de Roumanie Medforth-Mills (née Binder; born 26 January 1988) is a Romanian public relations consultant. As the wife of Nicholas Medforth-Mills, formerly Prince Nicholas of Romania, she is a member of the former Romanian royal family.

Early life and education[edit]

De Roumanie was born Alina Maria Binder on 26 January 1988 in Constanța. She grew up in Constanța and spent summers with her grandparents in Sibiu.[1] Her father, who is a pilot, taught her how to fly airplanes.[1] She has an older brother, Mihai Binder.[2]

After primary school, she attended the School of Music and Fine Arts in Bucharest to study painting, drawing, and modeling.[1] She graduated from Ion Luca Caragiale National College and went on to study at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies.[3] De Roumanie graduated with master's degree in international relations and European integration from the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration.[3]

Career[edit]

De Roumanie works in public relations as a consultant for the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association of Romania.[1][4] She organizes events and seminars in Romania and in Germany.[1] She also has a flight attendant certification.[3]

De Roumanie, who is a member of the former Romanian royal family by marriage, has made public appearances with members of the family. She made her first public appearance with her future husband in 2016 at the baptism of Prince Joseph d'Orléans, son of Jean, Count of Paris and Philomena, Countess of Paris, at the Église Saint-Pierre de Dreux.[3] She made her first public appearance with the former royal family at the funeral of King Michael I in 2017.[4]

In 2019, she and her husband attended the reburial of Queen Helen at the Archbishopric and Royal Cathedral in Curtea de Argeș.[5]

In 2023, de Roumanie attended the Ro Wine International Festival. [6]

Personal life[edit]

De Roumanie dated Sebastian Blaga, the son of Romaninan politician Vasile Blaga, for six years.[3] She and Blaga lived together in Germany.[3]

In April 2017, she became engaged to Nicholas de Roumanie Medforth-Mills while the two were staying in Cornwall.[1] They married in a civil ceremony on 6 October 2017 in Henley-on-Thames.[7] Her husband is the son of Princess Elena of Romania and a grandson of Michael I of Romania.[8][9] The couple celebrated their marriage in a Romanian Orthodox ceremony at Saint Elijah Church in Sinaia, followed by a wedding reception at the Sinaia Casino, on 30 September 2018.[10] The religious wedding was officiated by Bishop Calinic Argatu of Argeș and Muscel.[2] Aside from her husband's sister, Elisabeta de Roumanie Medforth-Mills, no members of the former royal family attended the wedding.[11] Upon her wedding, she took the surname " de Roumanie".[12]

On 7 November 2020, de Roumanie gave birth to a daughter, Maria Alexandra de Roumanie.[13][7] On 15 April 2022, she gave birth to a son, Mihai.[14] She is the stepmother of Iris Anna, her husband's daughter from a previous relationship with Nicoleta Cîrjan.[15]
