The Chauhan[1][2][3][4] or Chouhan, (Gujarati: ચૌહાણ) is a clan (subtribe) of the Banjara nomadic ethnic community of northern India.[5]
Banjara Chauhans are mostly found in areas of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Uttarakhand in northern India.[4]

Banjara are divided into five main clans viz. Rathod, Panwar, Chauhan, Puri and Jadon or Burthia. Each class or sept is divided into a number of sub-septs.

The names of the Banjara were drawn from their respective clans: each person belonged to either the clan of a Rathod, or a Chauhan, a Pawar and or a Jadav.
