Jonas Sanker is an American football safety for the Virginia Cavaliers.

Early life and high school[edit]

Sanker attended high school at the The Covenant School. Coming out of high school, Sanker was rated as a three star recruit, where he decided to commit to play college football for the Boston College Eagles.[1][2] However, Sanker decided to de-commit from Boston College, where he flipped his commitment to play for the Virginia Cavaliers.[3][4]

College career[edit]

In Sanker's first collegiate season in 2021, he notched five tackles.[5] In week four of the 2022 season, Sanker recorded his first career interception versus Syracuse.[6] Sanker finished the 2022 season totaling 63 tackles with half a tackle being for a loss, two pass deflections, an interception, a fumble recovery, and a forced fumble.[7][8] During the 2023 season, Sanker led the Cavaliers in tackles with 107 while also making four for a loss, 11 pass deflections, two fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles.[9][10] For his performance in the 2023 season, Sanker was named first team all-ACC.[11]
