History[edit]

224 Medium Regiment (Self Propelled) was raised on 24 May 1972 under the able command of Lt Col RK Chopra. The raising was carried out from a nucleus of troops from 70, 71, 72, 74, 222 and 223 Medium Regiments with all India all class composition.

The unit was raised as a Medium Regiment and continued till 2006, when it was converted to a Field Regiment. The Regiment converted to Medium Regiment (Self Propelled) in 2021 as one of the only five regiments of the Regiment of Artillery to hold this distinction.

Regiment Logo & Motto[edit]

The regimental motto is 'SARVADA SARVA PRATHAM' signifying the Regiment's pursuit to excel and be second to none in all spheres. The Regimental logo consists of two cannons symbolising the reach, lethality and accuracy of the firepower of guns and two Lancers representing speed and mobility. The star denotes the contribution of the unit in true traditions and ethos of the Regiment of Artillery in various operations. The unit's name and motto finds proud mention in the Regiment Logo.

The unit has the rare distinction and honour of being part of all major operations since raising in 1972. The role of the unit in accomplishment of various missions in Siachen Glacier during Op VIJAY in 1999 finds glorious mention in the annals of history. The Regiment was deployed as part of Op MEGHDOOT from 1997 to 1999 and rained down heavy destruction on enemy posts during its tenure. The unit also participated in Op TRIDENT in J&K in 1987, Op RAKSHAK in Punjab from 1992 to 1993, Op PARAKRAM in Rajasthan from 2000 to 2001, Op RAKSHAK in the Kashmir Valley from 2011 to 2013 and Op RHINO in Assam from 2016 to 2019.

Our unit personnel have distinguished themselves in the service of the nation and have been awarded with 02 PVSMS, 04 AVSMs, 01 YSM, 05 Sena Medals, 04 VSMS, 16 COAS Commendation Cards, 03 VCOAS Commendation Cards and 25 GOC in C Commendation Cards. The Regiment has the unique distinction of having produced three Lieutenant Generals including two Director Generals Artillery, six Major Generals including two General Cadre officers and seven Brigadiers. The Regiment received its Unit Appreciation by GOC-in- Chief, SC in Jhansi in 2023. The Regiment also had a rare honour to showcase its colours on Pratigya Path on 26 Jan 2023 in front of the whole Nation. The Moto of this elite Regiment is “SARVADA SARVA PRATHAM” meaning “Always The First”. The war cry of the Regiment is “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”.K9 Vajra Republic day 2023

The 224 Medium Regiment (Self Propelled) while being part of of  Southern Command displayed its devotion to duty, efficiency and bravery. Thus, this elite Regiment was awarded with GOC-in-C, Southern Command Unit Appreciation in the year 2023. The Commanding Officer received Unit Appreciation from Lt Gen AK Singh, GOC-in-C, Southern Command on 13 Jan 2023 in Pune.
